Autumn Header

I've been playing around with various screencaps and just recently decided that it was time to think about a new header, maybe one to suit the autumn mood I'm in. And after some looking around I found this lovely capture from the movie Becoming Jane which has touches of autumn leaves and which I played up with some orange lettering.

Here is the old header just for memory's sake. I have a couple other ideas for headers so I might change it again come Christmas time...we'll see.

What do you think of the new one? Let me know. Hope you're having a lovely weekend!

Autumn

Photobucket

I was very aware that it was coming, but somehow the first day of autumn just snuck up on me!
Autumn is my favorite season, I do so love the sights, sounds, smells and feeling of this season. In New England it is particularly lovely. Imagine the evenings getting shorter and cooler; the leaves changing to lovely shades of red, gold, orange and brown; the sound of leaves russling as you crunch through fallen leaves; the smell of apples, pumpkins, cranberries, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, hay and wood smoke. It is true that snowy cold winter follows close at autumn's heels and yet I don't care, it's such a lovely time of year!

I haven't gone apple picking yet but I have tasted the pickings of others, the Courtlands and early McIntosh. I had a yummy baked apple last night and have been enjoying other autumn treats, one of my favorites is pumpkin flavored ice cream from a local ice cream shop. I love pumpkin pie and this sweet cold treat tastes just like pie without the crust. I'm actually drinking apple cider flavored tea right now.

I have been quite remiss in telling about the newest pictures and interviews from Emma 2009. Two dear ladies (Elise, Charleybrown) have lovely posts about the new photos which they found at Shootastic, you have to register to view the photos but it is free.
There are also two interviews with cast members Ramola Garai and Michael Gambon which are interesting. Above is my favorite picture of our new Emma Woodhouse. We also get our first glimpse of Miss Bates!

Hope you enjoy these few bright ideas. May the Lord bless your day with His love.

Pride & Prejudice 1980

Photobucket

This has been long in the planning and I'm finally getting around to posting again. These last few weeks have been a series of trials and blessings and I got my first day off in almost three weeks, and happily did nothing but rest all day. So here we are with a post and I'm a bit frustrated that this is actually my first posting in response to films I'm watching for the Period Drama Challenge.
This film fits into the Bonnets & Hessians (set during the Regency) category.

As you know, if you've read much of my blog, I adore Jane Austen! Viewing this adaptation of Pride & Prejudice brought back an air of nostalgia to me as I remember being 10 or 11 years old and watching this film in two parts with my mother late at night after everyone else was asleep. I enjoy the opening title illustrations and the theme song, The music through out is pretty and usually suits the mood well.
Though the adaptation is not without it's faults it does contain my favorite Mr. Collins (who looks rather like a potato on stilts), an extra sweet Jane Bennet, a cute bumbling Mr. Bingley, a perfectly cast Mary Bennet, a friendly Charlotte Lucas, and an odious prickly Caroline Bingley. The script though not an Andrew Davies, is well written and follows the book very well. The whole thing makes me think of a BBC radio play - it's like watching a radio play. Done mostly on sound stages it has little scenery to admire and the dancing is quite noticibly staged. But nonetheless it is worth a see for Austen fans and anyone who enjoys a clean period film.
Elizabeth and Darcy are so-so, well cast a times but superficial at others. It is worth waiting to the end and seeing David Ritoul as Darcy smirk or almost smile when Lizzie accepts his proposal.

So that's about it for me. I have been watching quite a bit of period films lately and am excited to see The Young Visiters and Our Mutual Friend (which I recently purchased) again soon.

Hope you are doing well and having a lovely week. The air is getting a bit crisp where I am and I'm excited that Autumn is coming upon us fast! God bless! :)
